Job Description

Ministry for the Environment

Here at the Ministry for the Environment (MfE) we love innovation, and we love to do things differently.  We value our people and have created an agile work environment to help us mobilise our workforce to address the critical issues that need resolving.  Our people are from diverse backgrounds and work in flexible ways, but are all committed to our responsibility as primary advisors to the Government on the environment.

We tackle the hottest issues that impact on the environment, supporting New Zealand's prosperity – economic, social and cultural, without compromising our environment for future generations.

The Ministry's goal to make Aotearoa New Zealand the most liveable place in the world is a considerable responsibility and one we take seriously.

The position

This is an exciting opportunity to make a huge impact on our workforce.  We have committed to an ambitious and interesting work programme.  We're all about delivery, and to make this happen we need to work smarter. This is where you come in.

As part of the newly formed OD & Talent team, the fixed-term Senior Advisor Organisational Development is a critical role that supports the delivery of our workforce strategy through the design and delivery of a range of OD and people focused initiatives including:

-             Delivering our core leadership programme

-             Implementing our diversity & inclusion strategy

-             Maturing our approach to talent development and performance

-             Supporting a range of other People projects such as workforce planning, employer brand and agile working

The team is small yet influential, so we're looking for an experienced Senior Advisor who is a strategic thought leader with a practical delivery focus. You'll be comfortable working with technical frameworks and making these accessible and meaningful for our people. Working in close partnership with our senior leaders and alongside your L&D and Business Partner colleagues, your user-centred approach will help ensure our work hits the mark now and into the future.

Key areas of capability we're looking for are:

-             Broad OD experience at a Senior Advisor level, with deep expertise in one area, for example leadership, culture or diversity and inclusion

-             Analytical skills, including the ability to synthesise complex information in a clear way that enables effective decision making

-             Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence at a senior leadership level

-             An understanding of behavioural change and user-centred design processes

-             Experience in facilitation and learning design

Why work for us?

  • We are extremely proud of the meaningful work we deliver to the Government and New Zealanders.
  • We are part of the “Flexible by default” pilot and are leading the way in offering flexible working opportunities to ensure we are an employer of choice and attract the best talent.
  • We embrace diversity and inclusion in everything we do.
