Verification Services (VS) wants to further build its reputation for innovation and world leading delivery of Verification and has an opportunity for a talented strategic and thought leader to join as a Principal Adviser.


This is a superb opportunity for an experienced Principal Adviser or a Senior Adviser looking for the next challenge in their career.


About the Role - Kōrero mō te tūranga

As a Principal Adviser with VS you will play an important role to help shape the Directorate's work programme and priorities as a cost recovered business.  You will have a unique opportunity to work alongside the Director of (VS) and influence the direction the business will take.  It is expected that you will show leadership and be able to analyse and provide advice that assists the Director and leadership team in achieving strategic outcomes.


Skills and Experience - Ngā Pūkenga me ngā Wheako

This position will take on responsibilities from across Verification Services including the effective delivery of projects.  You will also need to be versatile and adapt quickly to the changing needs of the business.

 The role requires you to:

  • Bring innovative guidance to the development of advice and solutions to complex problems
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the commercial imperatives of a cost recovered business
  • Provide intellectual and people leadership within VS and across the wider NZ Food Safety group
  • Have significant breadth and depth of experience particularly in leading strategic analysis and engaging and reporting on performance
  • Demonstrate your keen thinking, and ability to provide high quality written and oral advice
  • Be a motivated individual who can deliver under pressure and work well both independently and within a team
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how government agencies function, as well as key government processes and current Government priorities. 
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively engage with a wide range of people with interest and involvement in the primary sector;
  • Be experienced in determining stakeholder and customer needs and establishing mechanisms for meeting these


We are looking for an advisor who can build relationships based on trust and respect with people at all levels.  Your analytical and commercial expertise will be expected to bring value across the Directorate and will test existing thinking through constructive debate.
