The South Marlborough District team is seeking a highly motivated person to lead the Community Team.


This position is based in Renwick, Marlborough. Renwick is located 10 minutes' drive from Blenheim and is in the heart of wine country. The Richmond Range, Wither Hills and Cloudy Bay are within easy reach for land and water-based recreation. Renwick is the perfect base to explore some of the most fantastic parts of the South Island with the Marlborough Sounds, Nelson Lakes National Park and Kaikoura all within a few hours' drive.

As the Community Senior Ranger/Supervisor you will be responsible for taking a strategic lead in promoting conservation, raising awareness and educating others on the value of conservation and ecosystem services and managing legislative requirements at a local level.


The functions of the role include

  • Team supervision/ staff management and project management
  • Budget management, work planning and thirdly reporting
  • Active participation in the District Leadership Team
  • Working with local iwi
  • Local input into RMA processes
  • Statutory land administration including public queries, permission and concessions
  • Media liaison and communications
  • Education and community group engagement
  • Participate in district emergency responses (e.g. whale strandings)
  • The coordination of the camp host and other volunteer programs
  • Conservation events co-ordination


The Ideal Applicant Will Have

  • Experience in leading teams and staff management
  • Excellent planning, organizing, strategic analysis and decision-making skills
  • Excellent relationship building and collaboration skills and a proven ability to work with a diverse range of stakeholders including community, iwi and business groups
  • Ability to inspire and motivate others while fostering a positive culture which values teamwork and continuous improvement
  • Excellent communication and writing abilities
  • Passion for and knowledge about conservation
  • Experience in statutory land administration, RMA, permits and concessions processes.
  • A tertiary qualification is desirable
