About the role

This is a newly created role within the MBIE Intelligence Unit (MIU) role in preventing irregular migration from offshore. It's a great position to deliver and influence some of the new and emerging work we are doing in this space.

While reporting into the MIU you will engage, support and work collaboratively with other areas of MBIE specifically Irregular Migration and the Science, Innovation and International branch.

You will build MIU and MBIE's Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) for both security and scientific purposes and provide expert level support to the assessment and analysis of national policies, programmes and capabilities in mitigating nationally recognised gaps /challenges in MDA.

You will be a technical lead and will be expected to provide expert level support on analysis of interdependencies among MDA-related systems/programs.  You will also have an understanding and have had experience of intelligence processes across the public sector.

Skills and experience required

We're really keen to hear from you if you have:

  • 3 + years of experience with analysis of imagery for intelligence, ideally in a maritime and/or national security environment.
  • Proven mentoring and leadership skills will be a distinct advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills with a problem-solving approach and excellent judgement.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external agency relationships
  • Ability to quickly assimilate new information and /or complex areas of work.
  • Knowledge of security and the management of classified or sensitive information
  • Must have a top secret clearance.

You must be a New Zealand citizen, or hold a residence class visa, and be able to gain and maintain a national security clearance.

Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET government security clearance for this role. In order to achieve this they must be a New Zealand citizen or resident who has resided continuously in this country for 10 years, OR a citizen of Australia, Canada, The United Kingdom, or The United States of America; and have resided continuously in one or more of those countries for the past 10 years prior to application, with a background history which is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a high level.
If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
