Job Description

  • Are you looking for a rewarding role based in Rotorua or Tauranga?
  • Are you looking for a role that will have a real impact on the regional development of the primary industries and economic development?
  • Are relationship management and customer experience fundamentally important to you?
  • Are you ready to be part of a nationally connected team to get results in the regions?

These are exciting times for our regions as the Government implements its Provincial Growth Fund and the Billion Trees Programme.  Here at MPI, our Economic Development and Partnerships team is responsible for ensuring that proposals and projects related to primary industries are supported, assessed, and monitored through the various stages of application and delivery.

We are now seeking an experienced Senior Adviser to join the team for a fixed term opportunity to June 2021. Reporting through to the Development Manager, you will identify, support and manage the development and implementation of initiatives that lead to economic development in the primary sector.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced operator to really make their mark with key projects.  This role is not for the faint hearted as no two days will be the same. You will be involved across the full spectrum of primary industries and be the coordinator of MPI input into business cases and feasibility studies along with writing reports and briefings.  You will need to be confident enough to represent MPI in public forums – from gumboots/grassroots to the boardroom.

To be successful in this role you need exceptional relationship management skills, be a self-starter, have a high level of influencing skills, be a good writer and politically savvy.  We'd like you to have existing networks in the regions.  We also need you to be proactive and have get up and go and be able to pick up a work programme and run with it.

There will be some domestic travel involved and a lot of relationship building with people in the Waikato-Bay of Plenty. There is the possibility for this role to be based in Rotorua or Tauranga.
