Job Description

Insights Analyst Secondments to Labour Market and Household Statistics  

We are seeking two inquisitive and driven Insights Analysts interested secondments to the Labour Market and Household Statistics unit. These would be ideal rotation opportunities for an existing Insights/Design Analyst or a high-performing Statistical and Data Analyst keen to be involved in high-profile releases.

Who we are

Labour Market and Household Statistics covers a large number of topic areas to do with people and how they live their lives. This ranges from work, income, wealth to wellbeing, culture and social connectedness.

We run the Integrated Household survey programme which includes our three regular household surveys: the Household Labour Force Survey, Household Economic Survey and the General Social Survey with their associated supplements, and the planned post-censal surveys Te Kupenga in 2018 and Disability in 2023. We also create analytics from administrative data.

The roles

One role is a 12-month secondment in the Labour Market Statistics. The Labour Market team analyses data from the HLFS survey. admin and survey sources to create a coherent picture of NZ business financial statistics at industry level. We provide quarterly information on unemployment rates and underutilisation rates. Our data and statistics are used in a variety of ways, for examples informing Official Cash Rate decision-making.

The other role is a 6-month secondment opportunity in the Income and Poverty team. This is a chance to be a part of releasing child poverty statistics in February next year. Over the next 6 months we will be getting a dataset ready for our release, including bringing admin data into the Household Economic Survey (HES) within the EPIC environment. We will then be preparing releases from this dataset, including telling stories about income and poverty.

  • Also be able to produce high quality work independently
  • Perform well under pressure
  • Be able to provide assurance for a core statistical release
  • Have excellent spoken and written communication skills and a talent for telling meaningful stories with our data.
  • Be adept at understanding and partnering with customers and stakeholders
