Design Analysts Social Statistics and Consumer Prices  

Are you interested in an opportunity to help develop New Zealand s most important statistics?

We have two Design Analyst roles available. Both roles are permanent and Wellington-based.  

Social Statistics

You will be helping to develop data and statistics that support the Government s priority of reducing child poverty in New Zealand. This information is used to provide indicators on how personal and household income, housing costs, and living standards have changed over time. It is used to support policy development and decision-making by government agencies.

Our ideal team member will be a highly-driven self-starter with a background in statistics, computer science, or data analysis. You will be innovative and have experience in seeking out, acquiring, and assessing new data sources. You will use your expertise and innovation to develop new methods to create new insights. Strong technical skills in R, Python, or SQL are essential, and good applied statistical skills is preferred.  

Consumer Prices

You will be working on the three yearly review of the Consumers Price Index (CPI) helping to to source, evaluate and shape different data in order to update the expenditure weights in the CPI. While we have an established process to follow, we are always looking for ways to make things more efficient including using administrative data with new statistical techniques.

Our ideal candidate will have some knowledge of relevant economic concepts and some experience from working in a relevant subject matter area such as economics, have good technical skills with a reputation for providing sound technical advice and an ability to apply your conceptual and creative thinking skills to help improve systems and processes.

We re also offering a remuneration for this role between $75,721 and $102,447, depending on the skills and experience you bring to the role.
