About us

About the role

Our Corporate teams are not only responsible for providing top notch to services to our wider Ministry we are also responsible driving innovative strategies, frameworks and work programmes which help develop our people, shape systems and processes and meet the changing needs of customers and government.

This role would be perfect for either an experienced payroll professional keen for a change of pace, or a Senior Payroll Advisor looking to move into leadership. As Payroll Lead at HUD you will work with streamlined processes and systems, contributing your knowledge and expertise to ensure exceptional payroll services and advice, continuous improvement and a commitment to customer service.

With one direct report, it's a hands-on role requiring a keenness to work collaboratively to ensure our payroll services continue to tick along nicely. If you've got data and insight skills, you'll also help implement robust reporting and work with our payroll supplier to ensure we use data well to tell our people story.

We're very support of flexible working, and this role could be full- or part-time.

About You

As Payroll Lead you will play an active and important role as member of our small People and Culture team, actively contributing to the achievement of our People Plan and Delivery Plan outcomes. You may already have Manager or Team Lead experience, or you may feel that leadership is the next step in your payroll career – we are open to both.

We may be small but we are pretty agile and we welcome individuals who would willingly help out on a range of activities across the People and Culture team. 

Your background will include:

  • Proven in depth experience working in a payroll environment at a senior level with a broad working knowledge of payroll processes including complex calculations, reporting and interfaces with Finance. 
  • Excellent communication skills including both verbal and written. 
  • Proven analysis skills and ability in thinking outside the square to come up with practical solutions and options to problem solve difficult payroll complexities. 
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation along with working knowledge and experience in operational people related practices and processes. 
  • Exceptional time management skills and a commitment to service delivery and accuracy.  
  • Ability to build credible, collaborative relationships across the Ministry. 
  • Advanced people technologies skills including payroll systems (Datacom Easipay experience highly desirable), Word, Excel, Powerpoint and document management systems.
