The Communications team plays a key part in educating the public about reducing risk, being ready for, responding to and recovering from emergencies.

The Graduate Advisor role will assist with the operational delivery of MCDEM's communications programme. On a daily basis you will support public education campaigns, organise events, and prepare documents, key messages, presentations and online material, and oversee our social media channels. No two days will be the same, so you'll need to be flexible and willing to take on new challenges and juggle an array of tasks.

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or relevant experience
  • Strong written communication skills and creative flair
  • Experience in formatting and laying out documents
  • Experience in developing and updating website and social media content
  • The ability to learn quickly and take on a variety of tasks
  • The ability to multi task, reprioritise and react to issues that arise whilst keeping calm and professional in demanding situations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to deal in the appropriate manner with a wider range of staff and contacts

The successful candidate will also be required to serve on our duty roster to respond to emergencies.

This is your chance to be part of a small and dynamic team that is hugely influential and passionate when it comes to building New Zealand's resilience.

The indicative starting remuneration for this role is $55,691 - $65,519.
