Job Description

  • Lead and drive implementation of a priority work programme
  • Fixed term 18 months

This is a great opportunity to lead a work programme that will help to lift Health system performance.

The performance of district health boards (DHBs) is critical in supporting the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders.  The Ministry plays a lead role setting expectations for DHBs that align with the Government's priorities, and in managing performance against these.

The DHB Performance, Support and Infrastructure directorate ensure strong effective relationships and provide leadership and support to ensure DHBs deliver on and are accountable for their operational, capital and financial performance.  Delivering major health infrastructure projects for the Crown; process payments and administer contracts for health care services is also part of the remit.

The role of Senior Project Manager Performance and Engagement is a new role that will be tasked with managing the Ministry's DHB Performance Programme.  The Programme has a range of workstreams, with contributions from across a range of teams.  You will be responsible for maintaining oversight of the various components, driving progress against agreed milestones, and reporting to key stakeholders, including the Programme Board.  In addition, you will be an active ‘do-er', taking on an implementation role for some aspects of the programme.  You will bring a methodical project management approach to the programme, and ensure effective project planning tools and methods are adopted and high quality results are achieved.

To be successful, you will have a strategic lens as well as the ability to lead tactical implementation.  Combined, this will support the Ministry to deliver the strategy and corresponding strategic prioirities of the DHB Performance Programme. Your ability to build collaborative relationships across a range of teams, as well as with executives and other stakeholders is paramount to ensure deliverables are achieved.  You will be well versed at delivering strategic projects to budget and on time, project goverance, and a variety of project methodologies.
