Job Description

Agile People Lead – Fixed Term (12 months)

Work for an organisation that makes a difference to New Zealanders.

The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) has one of the largest Information Technology departments in New Zealand. Consisting of around 360 people, we deliver the full suite of IT services working in partnership with our business and external suppliers. The Core Software Products group delivers large scale capital projects and is also responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of the Ministry's IT software portfolio.

MSD embraces Agile and utilises the SAFe model as its central reference framework for delivery. We are continually evolving our practices and methods and have an exciting opportunity to join the Core Software Products group Leadership Team as an Agile People Leader.

We operate a matrix model for capability and resourcing, with core technical staff grouped in Practices and assigned out into Agile Standing Teams (AST's) or on to defined projects. This role will be focused on looking after our practice of IT Business Analysts.

“People First” is one of MSD's core values and we have a strong focus on how we lead, manage, mentor and support our people. The key attributes for success in this role include:

  • Trust, honesty, integrity and empathy
    • build rapport and see the whole person, not just the ‘resource'
    • model the right behaviours consistent with our values
    • prepared to have honest conversations

  • Take a mentoring and coaching approach
    • provide guidance and direction
    • leading, not managing

  • Encourage personal responsibility
    • enable the staff to take ownership
    • facilitate outcomes

This is an exciting period for the Ministry and this role will suit someone that likes to be involved in a dynamic, changing environment. Please apply online with your CV and cover letter via the "apply" button.

All applications must be made online, however, if this is not possible or if you have any queries please contact The closing date for applications is Friday 25th October 2019.
