Job Description

  • Exciting opportunity to contribute to Stats NZ s vision and strategic direction
  • Lead the professional delivery of financial, procurement and property services
  • Drive financial stewardship for strategic advantage

Who We are:

At Stats NZ Tatauranga Aotearoa, our vision is to unleash the power of data to change lives. As New Zealand s official data and statistics agency, we are tasked with leading the way for New Zealand s data future, playing a unique role in measuring what matters to tell the story of New Zealand, who we are, who we were and who we will become.

Our Unique Opportunity

As the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Stats NZ, you will play a key leadership role financially stewarding the organisation and providing qualified and meaningful strategic financial advice to the Chief Executive, Executive Leadership team and the wider Leadership group so Stats NZ can deliver on its strategy, manage financial risks and seize strategic opportunities.

This role is a fantastic opportunity for a forward-thinking CFO to operate at an enterprise level and be a key player in leading the future direction and vision for Stats NZ. Stats NZ is currently at the forefront of new initiatives including Activity Based Working and the commercialisation of products and services that add potential alternative revenue streams. This role also sits on both the Core Leadership Team and the Group s Senior Leadership team so your strategic leadership and governance skills are a must.

,

This role offers breadth and isn t strictly limited to finance as you will also be leading procurement and property management services over three centres. There will be a significant opportunity for you to be an active participant in cross-agency and all of government initiatives.   Initial opportunities are the FMIS change project, the proposed changes in relation to the State Sector and Public Finance Acts and the move to Stats NZ s new premises which are currently being built.

You will be a respected and inspiring leader - someone that can hold and articulate a strong vision for their people and link it back to the long-term view.  You will be passionate about growing talent from within and developing cohesive and high performing teams. It will be key that you have the ability to build credible and long-lasting relationships across a myriad of stakeholders internally and externally and be comfortable representing Stats NZ.

Ideally, you will be a qualified Chartered Accountant who is passionate, driven and thrives on change. Currently, you may be second-in-charge to the Chief Financial Officer or be doing a similar role on a slightly different scale. Being a government agency, it s also preferred you have significant experience in government and are familiar with the Public Finance Act.
