We currently have three permanent Statistical and Data Technician roles available in different business units. One role is based in the Christchurch office while the other two are Wellington based.  

Who we are?

At Stats NZ Tatauranga Aotearoa, our vision is to unleash the power of data to change lives.  As New Zealand s official data and statistics agency, we are tasked with leading the way for New Zealand s data future, enabling data-led innovation across society, the economy, and the environment.

The International & Business Performance Statistics business unit produces economic statistics about New Zealand businesses and the trade they do with the rest of the world. Two roles are available, one in Christchurch and one in Wellington.

The Prices, Accommodation and Construction unit produce index statistics that measure changes in prices for goods and services (e.g. the Consumers Price Index). We also produce regular statistics on building and construction activity in the economy.  This role is Wellington based.

Our statistics allow evidence-based decision making which impacts the lives of all New Zealanders.

The purpose of the role  

As a transformer , your role is to transform our data to a more useable, value-added state so it can be used in our statistical production process. The work varies from data entry, data sourcing, classifying, validating, processing, coding, checking, shaping and confronting data/questioning results… but it s so much more than that. The aim of the game is to get the data one step closer to informing important decisions in Aotearoa, and your contribution ensures our data is ready to take the next step.  

What will you bring to the role?  

  • Some experience working with and analysing data
  • A positive attitude and willingness to work across teams
  • An eagerness to learn with an eye on future progression
  • Experience with R and Excel would also be beneficial

We re also offering remuneration for this role between $50,170 - $61,319 depending on the skills and experience you bring to the role.
