Job Description

Does the sound of working in a dynamic and interesting environment while making a real contribution to the security of New Zealand appeal to you?

The Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Leader within the Intelligence Directorate.  The core functions of the Intelligence Directorate are the planning and conduct of GCSB intelligence activities, and the overall coordination of Signals Intelligence assets to meet national requirements.  For this role, we are looking for a highly-motivated people leader with technical expertise to take up the challenge.

The Technical Leader provides day-to-day task and personnel supervision to the staff in their team, positively influencing the team's progress towards delivering valuable intelligence outcomes. The Technical Leader also represents the team's expertise to partners, contributes to and may lead operations, and has a vision for the team.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have the Technical skills to lead and understand the work of the team, provide guidance and solutions;
  • Use your experience to identify unique areas where the team can add value to deliver on business requirements;
  • Be able to navigate the legal and policy framework that the team operates in;
  • Show a passion for engaging with partners and NZIC stakeholders to enable the team to deliver the best outcomes for GCSB; and
  • Have the ability to think outside the box and deliver innovative approaches to intelligence problems.

We are a diverse team of passionate and committed people who are mission-driven, and enjoy the unique and important work we get to do – you cannot do this type of work anywhere else.

We offer a range of benefits including professional development, free health insurance, on-site gym, fitness and childcare facilities, 5 weeks annual leave and a great work life balance where you never have to take work home.

We support diversity in the workplace and believe it is our first line of defence. We encourage all parts of the community to consider a career with us.
