Job Description

Research Operations Palmerston North

If you are a leader with legal expertise who enjoys working within an inquiry-led organisation, rich in research stories, then this is an ideal role for you.
We are seeking a Team Leader Legal Services to join the Research and Enterprise team at Massey University.

This role is pivotal in setting the tone and quality of our legal services in the Research Office. We are looking for someone with several years' experience in leading teams and designing and delivering client-driven and responsive processes within a collaborative team context. If you love challenges, enjoy supporting others to flourish, and see yourself as a capable people leader, then we would welcome your application.

Aligned to ensure delivery of a client-focused, responsive legal service for all internal and external stakeholders, you will manage a team of three and you will be responsible for providing outstanding legal support to our researchers and staff and contribute to a culture of excellence and research success. You will provide a high standard and timeliness of legal advice to inform strategy, improve operations, and support the University's research commercialisation and enterprise activities. You will be comfortable in both undertaking the legal work by carrying your own portfolio of files, as well as supporting an effective team.

In addition, your focus on continuous improvement of the systems and procedures associated with the legal function and best-practice will be critical. Your ability to anticipate, manage and minimise legal risk and provide pragmatic, solutions-focussed outcomes for our stakeholders and translate legal concepts into easy to understand information will be integral to your success in this role. Your relationship building focus, stakeholder management and strong communication skills will also be key to your, and the legal team's, success.

You will need a tertiary law degree, current practising certificate as a Barrister and Solicitor or the ability to obtain one, demonstrated knowledge and experience in one or more of the following, Contract Law, Intellectual Property Law or Commercial Law.
