Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role

 

This role is available in Wellington or Auckland 

The Joint Border Analytics team uses big data tools and techniques to support intelligence development, protecting New Zealand's border from bugs, drugs and thugs.

Data science is an emerging field and features in to embed elements of analytics across the organisation to increase border protection. Joint Border Analytics is MBIE, MPI and Customs working together to protect the border through the development of predictive modelling.

As one of three Team Managers, you will lead cross-agency staff to deliver these outputs and work across the agencies to build customer relationships and partnerships, promote data science and represent JBA at national and international forums.

 

Your core duties will include:

  • Provide leadership to Joint Border Analytics (MBIE, MPI, NZCS) team members via effective communication and management of staff performance and development
  • Coordinate, facilitate and ensure delivery of analytics projects while contributing to the continuous development of an agile border sector data analytics capability
  • Support the MPI leadership team and engage in relevant MPI business/forums to provide direction to the IPCS group
  • Develop and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders to improve inter and intra agency coordination across operational activity
  • Be responsive to the changing border environment and manage team members via effective implementation of, and adherence to, organisational policies and procedures

 

Mōu - About You

The successful candidate will need:

  • Understanding of data analytics principles, methodology and project delivery via qualification or experience
  • Experience in the leadership and management of staff
  • Experience in managing relationships and processes with border sector stakeholders
  • Knowledge of intelligence and targeting processes and their utilisation in the NZ border sector
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Salary range for this role is $108,000 to $127,000 depending on skills and experience
