Job Description

  • Are you keen to work in a high profile work area?
  • Are you smart, driven and looking for your next move in your Policy career?
  • Are you looking to work in a high quality collegial policy team?

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

We have a great opportunity for a high calibre policy analyst to join our team. The role will focus on food related policies and regulation that interface with improving the wellbeing of New Zealanders and supporting the trans-Tasman Food Treaty through the collaborative joint Australia and New Zealand Food Regulation System.  It will involve working with stakeholders on a variety of interesting topics relating to New Zealand's food system.

A career at MPI offers great collegial support and engagement, a range of training and development opportunities, and a varied and topical work programme. There will also be opportunities to contribute, engage with Ministers and senior leaders and interact with key stakeholders.

We are looking for a Policy Analyst who:

  • has experience in a policy/regulatory role
  • provides clear, concise, well-reasoned and practical advice
  • will bring a ‘can do' attitude and take ownership of their work to deliver the best results
  • has strong interpersonal skills and the desire to make a positive contribution to the team
  • applies critical thinking and analytical skills to challenge the status quo
  • has knowledge of or an interest in food safety or the primary sectors and their setting with New Zealand's environmental, economic, social and political decision making

Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team

  • The Food Policy team at MPI works on a broad range of issues central to the management of domestic food production and international trade in food. We are responsible for providing advice on a wide range of topical food related issues, leading New Zealand's input into our trans-Tasman Food Treaty, legislative and regulatory review and the development of policies relating to food.
  • MPI is committed to growing and protecting New Zealand's primary sector. New Zealand's reputation for producing exceptional, high-quality food is fundamental to our exporting success. It also impacts on every New Zealander, who wants to know that the food they are purchasing and consuming is safe. This makes Food Policy one of the most visible policy areas of the Ministry.
