We are very flexible around how we fill this position and would be interested in hearing from Food Compliance Analysts/Coordinators who are either intermediate or senior level.   

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is currently looking for a Food Compliance Analyst & Coordinator or Food Coordinator to be based in Wellington.  This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the growing Food Compliance Services Team at MPI where you can use your unique blend of technical and personal skills to work with stakeholders in a sector crucial to New Zealand's national interestswhile making a difference in ensuring only safe and suitable food is sold in food businesses across Aotearoa New Zealand.

As a Food Coordinator, you will work closely with Food Compliance Services Team members to resolve a range of food sector related issues as well as responding to food incidents and emergencies. You will also be working with members of the public and the food industry as part of these activities.

 As a Food Compliance Analyst & Coordinator you will undertake the role of a Food Coordinator as well as being responsible for analysing data and reporting requirements for the team.

 In both positions, each day will provide variety, as you manage a wide range of food related issues dealing with new people every day.

The successful candidates for both roles will need to:

  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to wide ranging audiences.
  • Build and sustain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Have excellent time management and work prioritising skills.
  • Be a self-starter who has the ability to find robust but pragmatic solutions to complex problems in short timeframes.
  • Have the ability to successfully work independently as well as part of a team to fulfil a common objective.
  • Have the ability to manage information in both electronic and hard copy formats.
  • Have excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office suite of products and database skills.

Ngā Pūkenga me ngā Wheako | Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in the food sector and/or food regulation and enforcement would be an advantage.
  • Sound judgement and analytical skills, with particular emphasis on application in a regulatory and compliance environment.
  • Sound relationship management skills.
  • Proven communication and presentation skills.
  • Commitment to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.

A tertiary qualifications in food science, environmental/public health or relevant science disciplines and/or equivalent regulatory, compliance and enforcement experience would be desired but not essential.

If you are successful, you will be expected to attend and successfully complete a comprehensive residential training course of up to four weeks. Willingness to travel within New Zealand is required. The role is within an enforcement environment, requiring maturity and resilience but can provide real satisfaction within a supportive and inclusive workforce.
