Assistant Librarian – Information Literacy

City campus & Manawa

Full time, permanent

The Library is located within the Academic Support stream of CEE which works in partnership with departments and divisions to support Ara Institute of Canterbury's educational objectives and student success. The Library Team is responsible for delivering the Library's collection services including lending and circulation, technical services (acquisitions, cataloguing, serials management), Alma technical support, interloans, and services delivered in the Library or online.

 

The Role

The primary purpose of this role is to design and deliver high quality Information Literacy workshops to our learning, teaching and research communities. You will also be responsible for online and one-to-one support for student and will work closely with colleagues in the Ara Whakapiki Ako, Centre for Educational Advancement (AWA) in reviewing and developing resources and content for the online learning environment. The position is based at the City Campus Library but will be required to spend time at Manawa campus as well

 

Duties

  • In conjunction with Centre for AWA develop, deliver and evaluate the Information Literacy Programme
  • Promote and deliver Information Literacy workshops to targeted groups, individuals and online
  • Collaborate on the integration of Information Literacy into the curriculum with CEA team.
  • Mentor Assistant Librarians in the development of their teaching skills and to ensure quality of workshops delivered
  • Coordinate the development and delivery of web-based Information Literacy skills.
  • Keep up-to-date with educational trends in pedagogy, learning technologies and e-learning
  • Deliver Library information services through rostered desk duties (roster may include evenings & weekends) at City campus or Manawa campus and online via online chat facility, workshops & Q&A sessions
  • Contribute to an effective team environment
  • Maintain knowledge and expertise relevant to the delivery of Library Services
  • Other duties as directed.

 

Skills/Experience

  • An understanding of the processes of research, teaching and learning, and impact of technology on the same, in the tertiary context
  • Experience designing and delivering literacy skills online  
  • Demonstrated ability to courteously answer enquiries and refer to service desks
  • High level of oral and written communication skills
  • Methodical and efficient work habits
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and display initiative
  • Commitment to quality client service
  • Able to be flexible in working hours
