Job Description

Registered Nurse – Waikeria Prison

Ara Poutama Aotearoa (Department of Corrections) is going through an exciting time of change, and we're looking for committed staff to be part of our future.

We've just launched Hōkai Rangi, a new strategic direction for the Department. This strategy outlines our commitment to improving outcomes for the people in our care, identifies our long-term vision, and defines our plan for the next five years. It focuses on prioritising the wellbeing of the people who come into our care and how we support their transition back into the community.

As a Registered Nurse at Ara Poutama, you will be well-supported to practise to the top of your scope, providing a multi-level response within an organisation that is committed to its values and the wellbeing of people in our care.

We are a nurse-led health service offering many unique opportunities to develop and practise your skills in a range of clinical areas. We offer the opportunity to work as part of an experienced, supportive and dynamic team of like-minded health care professionals, where you'll be supported and encouraged to continue learning and developing professionally.

To apply for this position you will need to be registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse. A full New Zealand Drivers licence is also essential.

Shifts include weekend work, but no night shifts as there is an on-call triage system in place overnight.

If you think you've got what it takes to make a positive difference in the lives of the people in our care, their whānau and the community, then we want to hear from you.

Our values

At Ara Poutama we have five values that act as a guide for everything we do. They are:

Rangatira (Leadership) - we demonstrate leadership and are accountable

Manaaki (Respect) - we care for and respect everyone

Wairua (Spirituality) - we are unified and focused in our efforts

Kaitiaki (Guardianship) - we are responsive and responsible

Whānau (Relationships) - we develop supportive relationships

Kotahi anō te kaupapa: ko te oranga o te iwi

‘There is only one purpose to our work: the wellness and wellbeing of people'
