 This advert is for a 12 month fixed term role.


Do you have excellent graphic design and customer service skills? Do you put the end user at the heart of everything you design? Are you passionate about using your skills to help people connect with our conservation story – protecting, conserving and celebrating our nature?


We are looking for an experienced Senior Graphic Designer to join our Creative Services Team for a 12-month fixed term covering parental leave. You'll apply your excellent design skills to create communications and publications that support the delivery of DOC's key messages.  You will also have excellent leadership skills and be leading our small but highly professional team of designers. You will work with a diverse range of staff and material, so having the ability to build and maintain relationships with staff is key.


You'll be based in Wellington as part of our busy cross-functional team, so you'll be a self-starter with plenty of initiative and a confident advisor.


Here's what we want for this role:

  • Minimum of 6 years' experience working as a graphic designer
  • Tertiary qualification in graphic design
  • Experience leading and mentoring designers
  • Highly effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
  • A champion for the Department's brand and identity guidelines
  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Indesign, Photoshop and Illustrator) and Microsoft Office
  • A creative and innovative thinker
  • Strong initiative  
  • Strong technical knowledge of print production and file set-up
  • Confidence to raise issues, risks and opportunities


We'd be thrilled if you have:

  • expertise in visitor information design, particularly interpretation design
  • experience in digital/UI design


This role sits within the Creative Services Team and reports to the Team Lead.
