What you will do
This is an exciting opportunity to join the New Zealand Defence College, Defence Learning Unit, based primarily at Trentham Military Camp. The role provides exceptional one on one and group learning tuition, career appropriate communication skills and cognitive development.
The Adult Learning Tutor also provides advice on study skills and education pathways and is responsible for the promotion, facilitation and conduct of education within their respective camp or base.

What we need
Key skills we are looking for include:

  • A confident and passionate facilitator who is able to develop and deliver learning activities which will build on learners business writing skills, presentation and instructional skills and learners confidence in developing training experiences for others;
  • Subject matter expertise to deliver adult literacy and numeracy training based on sound subject knowledge;
  • Sound knowledge of the New Zealand tertiary education system;
  • Sound knowledge of learning theory, instructional design practices and educational evaluation;
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work with a wide range of people;
  • Strong time management and organisational skills;
  • Minimum of a degree in education or a relevant field is required. Qualification in adult teaching or demonstrated equivalent experience is also necessary;
  • A working knowledge on developing digital literacy would be an advantage.

While the role will be primarily based at, and serving, Trentham, the successful candidate will be a part of New Zealand Defence College – Defence Learning (DLearn) Central team. There will be an expectation of the successful candidate being able to travel to Linton Military Camp and/or RNZAF Base Ohakea during the initial induction period. Post induction, the successful candidate may be required to work from Linton or Ohakea as necessary to support service delivery in these areas. Occasional travel may also be required to Waiouru Military Training Camp.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Low level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last five years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
