Job Description

About the role

The Government has set a target to increase research and development (R&D) expenditure in New Zealand to two per cent of GDP. One of the key initiatives to support this goal is the introduction of the Government's new R&D Tax Incentive, which will provide a financial incentive (via a tax credit) to businesses to increase the amount they spend on R&D New Zealand.

Callaghan Innovation is partnering with Inland Revenue to deliver the R&D Tax Incentive (RDTI), leveraging each agency's strengths and perspectives to deliver a high performing R&D service for New Zealand businesses. Callaghan Innovation brings skills in deep scientific and technological knowledge, and an understanding of commercial R&D programmes.

Reporting to the R&D Specialist, RDTI, you will support the team of R&D Specialists/ Advisors with the research of applications. Ensuring they are aligned with the R&D criteria and provide insights to enable them to form an opinion and make recommendations to Inland Revenue.

About you

We are building a new team working collaboratively as part of the 'core team' with Inland Revenue. We need a varied skill set across the team and are interested to hear from Computer Science or Engineering Graduates with a Software/Digital/AI/IOT/Electronics focus. Your role involves assessing and making recommendations on applications for R&D funding; supporting the assessment of R&D expenditure and following up on compliance actions. You will work directly with customers in establishing their eligibility for the RDTI tax incentive and support them to understand the requirements for their claims.

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • An interest in the R&D environment with an emphasis in the above areas
  • A degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
  • A passion for supporting New Zealand's innovation ecosystem
  • Ability to develop, understand and align to new processes
  • A collaborative approach ensuring advice is consistent and aligned with the RDTI outcomes
  • Strong and effective communicator who can collaborate in a team environment
