Job Description
Senior Adviser, Resilience and Security
Opportunity to work at the cutting edge of policy
We're looking for a Senior Adviser to join our Resilience and Security team, based in our Wellington office.
The Ministry takes a broad view of transport resilience, including the security of New Zealand's transport system. In undertaking its work, the Ministry considers the impacts on the transport system of all hazard events including natural, technological, social and political events. Hazard events may take the form of sudden shocks (such as earthquakes or terrorist attacks) and their severity and probability may be affected by emergent risks (including the impacts of climate change and demographic shifts).
The ability of our transport system to function effectively during a range of adverse conditions, and then to recover quickly to acceptable levels of service, is fundamental to the longer-term wellbeing of communities, and New Zealand's economic productivity.
As a member of the Resilience and Security team, you'll have the chance to work in an exciting policy area with a vast range of stakeholders, providing advice to Ministers on relevant transport issues.
This includes working across the sector to:
You will be an experienced policy adviser with ideally a minimum of three years experience working in a government policy agency or department. You will understand government processes and have experience developing policy products such as Cabinet papers, Ministerial briefings and regulatory impacts statements. Along with your analytical skills, you will be able to develop and shape policy advice and problem solve complex and ambiguous strategic issues.
Knowledge and experience of resilience and security issues will be helpful, but is not essential.
You will be able to demonstrate that you're a strong collaborative team-player, who flourishes in being part of a busy and productive team.
This role will require you to obtain and maintain a security clearance of 'SECRET'.
The salary band for this role is $91,656 - $129,397.
The Ministry places a strong emphasis on professional development, and you'll receive plenty of support to take ownership of your role.
Join this energetic, motivated agency and make your contribution to New Zealand society, now and in the future.
