What you will be doing:

The Manager Strategic Partnerships role is a key leadership role in how the Ministry positions itself to accelerate change, mobilise New Zealanders and deliver solutions to environmental challenges. 

You will lead a team of specialists dedicated to building strategic partnerships across business and industry, youth, central government, NGOs and the research, science and innovation sector.  You will work closely with your colleagues leading the Treaty Partnerships and Regional Relationships teams to create impact at scale.

You will help guide the Ministry to operate in a sophisticated, cohesive and impactful way across partnerships, engagement and investments. You are a highly-experienced operator and know what is required to achieve change at a national level.  You understand the importance of taking a strategic approach and ensuring that the right systems, processes and capability are in place to get results.

You are known for getting the best out of people and building high-performing teams. You will play a significant role in ensuring the team delivers top quality advice, services and insights. Your collaborative working style enables you to foster key working relationships at various levels aided by your ability to always think about the bigger picture.

What you will bring:

You are dynamic and passionate with a reputation for excellence and delivery together with strong political nous. You will have:

  • A minimum of 8-10 years' experience in partnerships, engagement and relationship management  
  • Proven track record of developing and growing strategic partnerships across the private and public sectors.
  • Deep knowledge and expertise in designing collaborations and partnerships Exceptionally solution-focused with the ability to present ideas and propositions
  • Experience in working in sustainability with large businesses and/or NGOs
  • Proven experience developing engagement strategies for organisations operating at a national level
  • Strong people leadership skills including performance management
  • A talent for issues management and problem solving
  • An understanding of Te Ao Māori
  • Proven financial management and knowledge of planning and budget processes
