Job Description

The Takaka District is need of a Supervisor to lead part of its Recreation and Historic team. Supporting the Operations Manager, the role is focused on work associated with the Heaphy and Abel Tasman Great Walks, including coordinating the Districts hut warden programme. People currently with or wanting to develop their supervisory and leadership skills particularly in the outdoors should apply.

 

About you

You could be an up-and-coming leader, or you may be an experienced people leader with transferrable skills to conservation. Ideally you have a background in recreation, (e.g. landscaping, building or maintenance) and understand the historic landscapes across Aotearoa. You will need to be able to demonstrate strong field planning and coordinating skills. Most importantly you will have a desire to lead people.

 

 

The successful applicant's key requirements:

  • Willingness to contribute to the wider office needs and culture e.g. duty officer, H&S forums, represent the office in a public capacity.
  • Demonstrate skills as a leader/supervisor
  • Relevant experience/knowledge in the building/landscaping industry
  • Sound experience and/or practical knowledge
  • Computer and technologically savvy including excel spreadsheets and GIS
  • Strong health and safety values
  • Excellent communication skills – oral and written
  • A high level of fitness and backcountry experience
  • The ability to prioritise your own work and that of the delivery team
  • A genuine interest in the Departments management of our natural and cultural heritage, and an enthusiasm for engaging others in conservation
  • Full NZ drivers licence
