Manager - The Office for Māori Crown Relations – Te Arawhiti

The Office for Māori Crown Relations - Te Arawhiti is dedicated to fostering strong, enduring and meaningful relationships with Maori across Government. Our managers are key in providing leadership for this high-profile, fast-paced and rewarding mahi.  This is the perfect opportunity to significantly increase your leadership capability and take your relationship skills to a new level.

We currently have a manager opportunity in our Takutai Moana (Marine and Coastal Area) Kāhui.  The manager, Takutai Moana is responsible for leading a team who builds relationships with whānau, hapū and iwi to understand their connections with the Takutai Moana with a view to providing the Minister with advice on the recognition of customary rights under the Takutai Moana Act.

You will provide leadership across all areas of management; supporting the team deliver our mahi; developing strong professional relationships, working collaboratively across government, leading the development of advice to Ministers, and implementing the work programme. You will be actively engaging with and working directly with whānau, hapū and iwi to understand their perspective, cultural connections, and aspirations for the future. 

What are we looking for?

  • Proven leadership, management and development of effective and cohesive teams.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate others while fostering a culture which values teamwork and continuous improvement
  • Proven skills in policy development and experience of Māori-Crown policy perspectives and frameworks.
  • Excellent relationship and engagement management skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively with Māori and across agencies to achieve results
  • Knowledge of te reo me ōna tikanga.
  • Knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi from an historical and contemporary context.
  • Sound project management skills and ability to manage complex streams of work to meet key milestones.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the machinery of Government including the ability to provide advice to Ministers, Cabinet Committees, Select Committees and leading the passage of legislation through Parliament.

Salary range:  $115,934 - $163.671
