  • Have ideally at least five years working within the neonatal specialty

The Team: What we do

The Neonatal Service at Christchurch Women's Hospital is a 41 bedded unit compromised of 11 intensive care and 30 special care cots. It is a busy acute service providing secondary/tertiary care to new-born babies born prematurely or with surgical, congenital and medical complications following birth. The service is responsible for neonatal transport within Canterbury, West Coast of the South Island and further afield for surgical neonates.

The Human Milk Bank serves the sick and pre-term babies at Christchurch Women's Hospital. The Milk Bank manager and Milk Bank aide work closely together to provide a safe and sustainable supply of pasteurised donor milk. Situated in the neonatal unit the bank is part of a larger multidisciplinary team that promotes protects and supports breastfeeding and lactation for mothers in the Neonatal Unit.

The Role: Where you fit in

We are seeking a permanent 0.4 FTE (16 hours a week) Clinical Nurse Specialist, Milk Bank Manager to join the Milk Bank team. Working weekdays in office hours. The Bank is currently not open on public holidays or weekends.

In this role, you will be the following:

  • Hold/working towards a relevant post graduate qualification
  • Experience and/or an understanding of the Neonatal Milk Bank
  • Demonstrated skills in nursing leadership
  • Competent computer skills and working with excel spreadsheets
  • Motivated and flexible self-starter with the ability to work both in a large multidisciplinary team and autonomously
  • Effective time management and advanced problem solving, and assessment skills are imperative
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to engage a wide range of people
  • Ability to build, strong effective relationships with our families and with our many other stakeholders with whom you liaise
