Job Description
Play a key role in shaping the Government's economic policy agenda at the intersection of research and policy
The Treasury is the New Zealand Government's lead economic and financial advisor. Our vision is to be a world-leading Treasury working towards higher living standards for New Zealanders. We have an opportunity for a talented and high achieving Senior Analyst to join the Economic Strategy and Productivity (ESP) team.
The ESP team directs the Treasury's advice to Government on building a productive, sustainable and inclusive economy. We apply the Treasury's Living Standards Framework to our strategic policy advice on the Government's budget priorities and New Zealand's economic performance.
Within ESP is a recently established Economic Performance team. It is tasked with helping ESP advisors to access relevant research and evidence on economic growth and productivity, to support the development of high-quality evidence-based policy advice. It is also responsible for Vote management and associated activities for the Productivity Commission and Statistics New Zealand.
Reporting to the Principal Advisor, Economic Performance, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to:
Senior Analysts at the Treasury have a significant breadth and depth of analytical experience, and provide guidance and mentoring to others as well as heading up complex and challenging projects. In this role you would be helping two graduate analysts to develop in their roles while growing your own leadership skills.
Our ideal applicant will have 5+ years' experience working in policy or policy-focused research, plus experience in applying economic frameworks, an understanding of government fiscal management processes, and good people skills.
