Job Description

We re looking for two Data Wranglers

If you re keen to have a hand in how Stats NZ stewards data and you like getting to grips with new systems, come work with Integrated Data. We re looking for people to join the Integrated Data (ID) unit at Stats NZ to help us bring data in safely and efficiently, and to continue to do so through some pretty big changes in the way we manage data.

We have two roles available, in our Customer Liaison and Service Delivery teams.

We re looking for people with good relationship management skills and the technical know-how to help us design and improve our data on-boarding processes. You ll be working with suppliers and across our unit to ensure that we remain good data stewards and show New Zealand we take our role as Kaitiaki seriously.

Specifically, we ll be looking for people comfortable working with other teams across our unit and driving change from within. ID is going to have the technical ability to bring in much larger amounts of data, and we want to make sure our people, processes, and suppliers are ready.

,

Customer Liaison

In this role you ll be working alongside a Design Analyst as part of a new piece of work, structured around Trust and Transparency of integrated data use. You ll be helping bring a supplier and social licence view to how we bring data in, as we move toward using new tools in the transformation of our core Integrated Data product, the Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI). You ll also be working across the unit, with two other Data Wranglers in our data on-boarding function.

,

Service Delivery

In this role you ll be working alongside another Data Wrangler to lead a small group of analysts responsible for on-boarding the data to be transformed into our world-leading integrated data products.

As a Data Wrangler in one of these roles, you ll be:

  • Developing knowledge of data wrangling tool Trifacta and a Hadoop Datahub platform
  • Building, testing and implementing our processes through the design lifecycle with trust in mind
  • Working directly with suppliers and Stats NZ to nail down technical requirements
  • Translating those needs for non-technical people involved in decision making
  • Helping provide oversight of the production process:
    • Checking data supplies against requirements
    • Checking our testing procedures and processes
    • Investigating data quality issues
    • Organising the data to fit the system
    • Helping to source and build new data into the system
,

Both roles will be permanent, Wellington-based and full-time.

Working at Stats NZ

You ll be joining an inclusive environment in which all people, regardless of gender, race, religion or background can come do their best work. Our goal is to provide our staff with a working environment that provides them with the opportunity to:

  • have challenging, varied and interesting work
  • develop and grow their careers
  • balance life and work, and
  • work in an agile, dynamic and flexible manner.

We care about our people, and value your drive, energy and inquisitive nature. Bottom line, we are in search of real people that don t believe in the status quo and seek to add value every day.

We re also offering a base salary for this role between $75K - $89K, depending on the skills and experience you bring to the role.

If you are a passionate and talented person relishes the idea of becoming part of NZ s data ecosystem, then come join our team!
