Executive Assistant to the Principal Family Court Judge - Wellington - MOJ/1442174

The Ministry of Justice invites applications for the position of Executive Assistant to the Principal Family Court Judge (“Principal Judge”).  The position offers the successful candidate an opportunity to work closely alongside the Principal Judge in the administration of the District Court of New Zealand generally, and the Family Court in particular. 

This is a full-time permanent position based in Wellington.

You will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring the Principal Judge is fully prepared for all commitments.
  • Full diary management.
  • All travel and accommodation arrangements for the Principal Judge.
  • Managing correspondence in and out of the Principal Judge's chambers.
  • Organising Judges' conferences.
  • Attendance and minute taking at high level meetings.
  • Working closely alongside colleagues within our Chambers.

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • Two or more years supporting a senior manager or executive.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally at all times.
  • A sound knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • An attention to detail and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • The ability to cope with changing demands and manage competing priorities.
  • The ability to work independently and without supervision.

About us

The New Zealand District Courts were established in 1980, and have always operated in a principled and disciplined way. Today there are 58 District Courts located throughout New Zealand. The Chief Judge of the District Court is the Head of all the District Court Benches, but the day to day leadership of the Judges of the Family Court is the responsibility of the Principal Family Court Judge, which this role is the Executive Assistant to. The Chief District Court Judge, Principal Judges and their support staff all share chambers, based in Wellington.
