Job Description

New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) | Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa protects New Zealand against threats to the border. Do you want to make a positive difference to the protection of New Zealand's border from serious threats, the facilitation of legitimate trade and travel, and the collection of customs and excise revenue on behalf of the Crown?

Do you want to work in an organisation that is protecting and promoting New Zealand through world class border management? Are you interested in both business analysis and how data can tell a story?  Then this may well be the career opportunity that you have been looking for.

We are looking for an analyst to join our Business Performance team. Our ideal candidate will have a few years experience, or be a recent graduate who can demonstrate their ability to extract insight from data and work well with our key stakeholders. We can offer you the opportunity to develop your skills in providing analysis that tells us how Customs is performing. This will involve both working with our information systems to produce reports and also contributing to how we measure progress against our strategy. You will be working closely with our Senior Analysts in Performance Reporting and Data and Systems.

To be successful in this role you will need to have:

  • experience in both performance reporting and data analysis
  • experience in the use of Microsoft excel and other data analysis tools
  • strong numeric analytical skills are essential
  • an understanding of statistical principles would also be an advantage.

Joining Customs

To join Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa in any role, you must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident*. Because of the nature of Customs' work you must have a clear Police record.

Organisational security clearances are mandatory and are conducted by Customs before job offers are made. You are also required to pass a drug test.

(*) you need to have continuously resided in New Zealand for the last five years, or in one or more of the following countries: Australia, Canada, United Kingdom or United States. You must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level.

New Zealand Customs Service | Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa is a member of Diversity Works New Zealand and is committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive workplace. We provide equal employment opportunities and welcome applications from everyone who can meet the requirements of the role.

New Zealand Customs Service | Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa also supports flexible working arrangements. We welcome the opportunity to speak with you about your flexible working requirements.
