Rehabilitation and Learning (R&L) is responsible of the effective and efficient delivery of end to end rehabilitation and reintegration functions aimed at reducing re-offending.

This role is an exciting opportunity for you that combines two of our positions to one in a hybrid role. The make up of this position looks like this - Team Lead (Internally called Principal Adviser Rehabilitation and Learning) 30% and Interventions Coordinator 70%.

Team Lead (Principal Adviser, Rehabilitation & Learning) will be responsible for the planning and co-ordination of programmes, education and treatment across the site for people in our care. This role would also ensure volunteers are fully supported and integrated into the Corrections environment, and volunteer activities are co-ordinated, both in prison and the community to best meet an their needs.

This position is critical to ensuring the rehabilitation needs of people in our care are being met through appropriate interventions and education. This role will work closely with the Principal Case Manager to proactively plan activities that meet prisoner needs, work collaboratively with managers and staff (at site and regional level) to ensure visibility of activities, delivery of education services and monitor all education, treatment and programmes. It is expected the role, through the monitoring of activities would identify gaps and develop strategies/solutions to address those gaps.

As part of a team, the Interventions Co-ordinator will share responsibility for the overall co-ordination of programmes and services for Invercargill Prison. With your strong relationship management skills you will be the interface between Departmental staff, service providers and offenders. You will be responsible for ensuring specific delivery targets are achieved. You will also have a key role in supporting the rehabilitation and reintegration of people in our care.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Proven experience at management level in a role requiring business planning, staff development, consultation, communication, and relationship management skills
  • Understanding of the factors impacting on offender rehabilitation and reintegration, coupled with a sound working knowledge of key agencies, both governmental and non-governmental, in the social/justice sectors
  • Commitment to developing staff to improve performance, contribute to culture change, and build capability
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relations with external agencies and stakeholder groups, taking account of their strategic goals, pressures and priorities
  • Be computer literate - proficient in use of Word and Excel, and be able to pick up in-house computer systems
  • Manage a large workflow and prioritise in an efficient manner
