We are looking for a person to join the Inshore Fisheries Team within Fisheries New Zealand as a Fisheries Analyst or Senior Fisheries Analyst. The role will be based out of Wellington or Napier.


About the role - Kōrero mō te tūranga

Within the role you will be working with a range of technical experts and stakeholders to monitor and advance national and regional fisheries management initiatives including projects to improve fisheries management frameworks, as well as strategies to manage the sustainable use of fisheries resources, including the environmental impacts of fishing.


You will have the opportunity to lead pieces of work as well as work alongside a team of passionate individuals across New Zealand committed to ensuring sustainable fisheries resources for future generations.


We are interested in a person with a qualification in marine science, resource management, law, economics, or a related discipline and, preferably experience in developing policy advice and working with stakeholders (at least four years for a Senior Fisheries Analyst).


The ideal candidate would have:

  • Experience as an analyst or advisor
  • Strong analytical skills and the capacity to quickly identify and clearly define an issue
  • Understanding of Government processes including Parliamentary processes
  • Previous experience establishing and effectively maintaining collaborative relationships with tangata whenua, stakeholders and Government agencies
  • Knowledge of fisheries management and regulatory frameworks
