The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi 

The purpose of the Road User Charges (RUC) Assessment Officer role is to educate, assess and monitor compliance from anyone operating a vehicle subject to RUC. The revenue collected from RUC is dedicated to the National Land Transport Fund. RUC is collected by the NZ Transport Agency and enforced by the New Zealand Police. This role works closely with the RUC Assessment Leadership team, Senior RUC Assessment officers, RUC Specialist Accessors and the Senior Technical Advisor 

This is a role with plenty of opportunities to use your strong customer service and decision-making skills. You must have some knowledge of and the ability to interpret Road User Charges and be keen to use this to educate and assist customers. 

About you | Ko wai koe 

To be successful in this role, you will bring: 

  • Experience in a customer service environment 
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities 
  • Excellent decision making and judgement skills 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as strong numeracy skills 
  • The ability to build and manage key relationships with colleagues, partners and stakeholders 
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the transport sector is preferred 
  • Demonstrated skills in the Microsoft Office suite 
  • Strong customer focus 
  • A high level of attention to detail 
  • Experience interpreting legislation and knowledge of the Road User Charges regime is preferred 
  • A high level of organisational and time management skills
