Technical skills that provide an ability to develop new test methods, conduct testing, collect data and a strong analytical capability for the evaluation of test data are also required.
Our preference is for a demonstrated knowledge in the use of common chemistry laboratory equipment such as HPLC, GCMS or other spectroscopy techniques. In addition to this, an aptitude in the use of specialist software associated with laboratory and data acquisition equipment is desirable.
We need a good communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to build strong relationships across the NZDF and externally. You must have excellent attention to detail, a strong desire to learn and you must be passionate about this area of work.
Who we are
The ‘Platform and Protection Systems' Group is a team of approximately 20 scientists and engineers who provide science and technical support in the areas of land, sea and air vehicle engineering, materials engineering and chemistry, propulsion systems, power and energy, CBRE defence, ballistics and personnel protection.

The group's activities and services cover the acquisition and life cycle of military equipment of the RNZAF, RNZN and NZ Army. These services are supported by a multi-disciplinary research and development programme, which includes research designed to address future needs and high priority requirements defined by single-service sponsors. The group also supports training and operations both domestically and abroad.

Every hour of every day, 365 days of the year, the New Zealand Defence Force is contributing to the defence, security and well-being of Aotearoa / New Zealand.  As a modern, professional military, it is our goal to maintain well trained, equipped and disciplined armed forces that can react to crisis at short notice.
