Job Description

What you will do

The Trade Workshop Instructors are Generic Engineering Instructors at the Trade Training School and are responsible for the efficient and effective delivery of engineering training to NZDF technicians.

The position has primarily a support focus and is responsible for the correct training of specialised trade and job specific skills to NZDF technical personnel.

In this role you will be instructing classes of military personnel who range from new learners just starting their engineering career up to those who are at the top end of gaining their trade certification. The role also includes updating and developing training material, designing and building training aides and maintain training equipment.

What we need

We are seeking a person skilled in the basic operation and maintenance of all engineering workshop practices including fitting, turning, manual machining, diesel fitting and different welding applications. A high degree of hydraulics knowledge is desirable, as is familiarity with the NZQA framework and the awarding of national qualifications.

You are a confident communicator, very experienced in delivering briefings and training to groups while working within industry engineering best practices. As an experienced instructor you can work with a diverse range of learning types, able to adapt your style to your audience. Good computer skills within the Microsoft Office Suite are needed.

In terms of qualifications we are ideally seeking a Trade Certificate or equivalent, NZCE or NQF equivalent and a relevant tertiary qualification in Education would be beneficial

The Fleet Personnel and Training Organisation is responsible for managing the careers of all uniformed members of the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) and the delivery of induction, leadership, and environment-specific professional training to naval personnel, and in some instances, other members of the NZDF.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Low level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last five years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
