We have an exciting and unique opportunity for a highly-skilled and motivated Senior Advisor to join the Finance Development Programme (FDP) as part of the Strategic Performance Improvement (SPI) team.

The Team/What we do

A core role of the Treasury is improving the performance management of resources in delivering better outcomes for New Zealanders. The SPI team supports internal and external stakeholders to build and improve strategic financial management and understanding of performance across the State sector. This includes working with the State sector finance profession (in support of the Head of Finance Profession) and across the Treasury.

The Finance Development Programme (FDP) is an initiative that seeks to harness the opportunities and resources we have as a diverse, complex and interesting public sector in order to build a sense of a single State sector finance profession, build people capability in the areas identified by the profession and support the development of a pipeline of diverse and strong public sector finance professionals.

In this role you'll have the opportunity to

  • Lead the development, design and delivery of a cross-government capability development programme
  • Contribute to the setting of vision and direction for the finance profession within the State sector
  • Provide advice to key stakeholders including senior finance leaders
  • Build an engaged network of relationships across the system 
  • Support and coach other members of the FDP team

About You

As well as significant experience in organisational development and talent management, you'll bring:

  • The ability to work in an environment of ambiguity and collaborate with others to create a vision and pathway to achieve that vision
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring less experienced staff
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information effectively
  • The ability to think critically with a strong analytical ability
  • The ability to build strong relationships with, and influence a variety of stakeholders
  • Proficiency in programme and project management would be beneficial as would an understanding of public sector finance
