Ma tau rourou, ma taku rourou, ka ora te iwi (with your contribution and my contribution the people will prosper)

  • Would you like to shape the economic thinking driving New Zealand's primary sector land use, production, and profitability?
  • Are you interested in developing relationships and using data to inform and influence decision makers?
  • Are you an outstanding communicator looking to play a major role in driving economic rationale underpinning policy decisions?

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

We are on the hunt for a smart, curious, and enthusiastic Principal Adviser who will challenge conventional thinking and use strategic thinking and analytical skills to transform the way information is collected, used, and shared. You'll be a thought-leader who is comfortable drawing insights from quantitative and qualitative information, is sharp with numbers and can quickly distil loads of information into relevant, narrative-rich analysis and recommendations.

MPI's Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) investigates emerging trends in agricultural production and trade to understand what the changing world means for the future of our primary industries. It also plays a key role in improving and providing accurate and useful farm benchmarking data across physical, financial, and environmental measures.

In this role, you'll partner with key industry stakeholders to address the economic challenges facing our primary sectors as they transition to a productive, sustainable, low-emissions future.

To be successful you'll have a passion for growing and understanding our primary sectors, with relevant experience in the primary sector or a closely related field.

This is an exciting position and one that offers the opportunity to really make an impact while carving out your own space.
