Supervisor Social Worker, National Contact Centre – Grey Lynn, Auckland

Do you want to make a genuine, positive impact on the lives of tamariki, rangatahi and whānau? Join a hardworking team where we have a great opportunity for an experienced Supervisor or Social Worker with recent and relevant experience to lead a team of experienced Social Workers and manage emergency after hours work for across the country.


What you will do?
•    Lead a team of staff, providing quality supervision that grows the professional knowledge, capability and capacity of your team
•    Mentor, coach and develop Social Workers to help them reach their potential
•    Help embed all practice tools for your team to make quality assessments
•    Partner with and manage the workflow of the team to respond to at risk tamariki and rangatahi
•    Work 4 x 10-hour shifts, Wednesday – Saturday during the day. On the Saturday shift, you will take sole charge in a wide range of work which may include:

  • Emergency care and protection reports of concern
  • Manage any serious youth justice matters that arise
  • Provide caregiver support and assistance
  • Supervise all crisis call outs for social workers around the country
  • Manage organisational risk to the business


What you will bring?
•    Full registration with New Zealand's Social Work Registration Board (SWRB) or able to register
•    A social worker qualification recognised by the SWRB
•    Strong knowledge and experience of what Oranga Tamariki does, how we work and our Act
•    Flexibility to work different shifts whether it be morning, evenings or weekends and open to change
•    Previous people management and supervisory experience
•    An ability to build and lead an effective team and be a team player
•    Resilience, initiative and a proactive approach
•    Strong relationship skills and ability to work with key stakeholders like The Police, Ministry of Health and emergency services
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt to your audience
•    Sound judgement, time management and organisational skills
•    The ability to manage risk, make tough decisions and multi task
•    Tech savvy with experience working with a range of computer programs
•    Cultural awareness and confidence to back yourself
•    Creativity with a problem-solving mind set
•    A positive outlook and the ability to stay calm under pressure

The National Contact Centre services the entire country, providing 24/7 service to children and families. From initial contact, the Contact Centre will be involved in many aspects of completing the child's journey through our multiple services.
