The purpose of the roles

Integrated Data 

We're looking for people to join our small team of dedicated professionals, working to provide expert support across Stats NZ s world-leading Integrated Data products the IDI and LBD.

This is an excellent opportunity to be at the forefront of integrated data growth - our products are used for the creation of insights that shape policy across the New Zealand government and beyond. You will have the opportunity to use your data analysis, and communication skills to develop and produce our Integrated Data products.

These roles will work in two key areas of providing our Integrated Data services:

  1. Development, including:
    1. Engaging with customers to understand their needs and requirements
    2. Maintaining a strong customer focus as you create new products and services
    3. Becoming an expert in the way integrated data is created and using this knowledge to drive process improvements
    4. Developing workflows in our new infrastructure using technologies like Trifacta and Hive
  2. Data Specialisation and Support for our customers. This includes:
    1. Handling specialised researcher queries about the data
    2. Meeting with customers to discuss data access applications
    3. Reviewing access applications
    4. Establishing and improving support processes to enable our customers

These roles will evolve over the coming years as we transition our production platforms to exciting new technologies.

National Accounts

Our unit provides a comprehensive view of NZ s performance by measuring different aspects of the economy including; GDP, investment, spending, saving and business performance.

  • What sector of NZ s economy is growing the fastest?
  • How much are New Zealanders spending and saving?
  • What s the largest industry in NZ?
  • How does NZ s economic performance measure up to other countries? 

National Accounts answers these and other questions about the NZ economy. Our key customers include Reserve Bank, Treasury, general and financial media, and international organisations such as the OECD and IMF. Our statistics are also widely used by many other government agencies and research bodies.


What will you bring to the role:  

  • Great relationship management skills
  • Communication skills that enable you to tell meaningful stories for New Zealanders using data
  • An appreciation of how statistics are used by our customers
  • Strong coding skills to manipulate and merge datasets
  • Analytical curiosity which drives you to solve problems
  • A passion for continuous improvement
  • Willingness to be coached and take feedback 
  • Experience with SAS, R, SQL and Excel is beneficial  
  • A background and/or interest in economic statistics

We re also offering a base salary of around $65,000, depending on the skills and experience you bring to the role.   We also offer graduate positions (starting salary of $54,000) which are a pathway into a statistical and data analyst role.
