Job Description

Do you want to work at the heart of government in a role where you can influence real change and work with senior leaders across government?

  • Do you want to improve how strategic planning takes place across the State sector?
  • Work with a wide range of stakeholders across government and within the Treasury.
  • Do you want to be part of a supportive, enthusiastic and high performing team?

The Treasury is the New Zealand government's lead economic, financial and regulatory advisor. Our vision is to be a world leading Treasury working towards higher living standards for New Zealanders.

We have an opportunity for a highly skilled Senior Analyst to join the Strategic Performance Improvement (SPI) team.

About the SPI team

A core role of the Treasury is improving the performance management of resources to deliver better wellbeing for New Zealand. The Strategic Performance Improvement team supports internal and external stakeholders to build and improve strategic financial management and understanding of performance across the State sector.

The team oversees the government's strategic planning and performance reporting requirements, and provides advice on how to implement the Public Finance Act. Success in this role means playing an important role in a project working with agencies to trial a new approach to strategic planning.  This is a great opportunity to help influence new ways of thinking and working by understanding the strategic planning process within the public service and supporting the implementation of a new approach to strategic planning; including working with a small number of agencies, trialing this new approach and evaluating whether the new approach is delivering.

About You

In addition to significant experience within strategy, planning and/or organisational performance management you'll also bring:

  • Highly developed relationship management skills with the ability to influence a variety of people at different levels
  • A proven ability to convey information to diverse audiences in an effective manner
  • Experience working with others to develop innovative solutions to important issues
  • Systems thinking skills; including the ability to see and appreciate the big picture, understand the key relationships and identify levers to affect change
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to self-start
  • Knowledge of Government processes and an understanding of the public finance system would be advantageous.

In this role, you'll:

  • Work across government and the Treasury to improve strategic planning within the public service
  • Join a passionate, diverse, experienced and cohesive team
  • Have access to work and training opportunities that support your development and career aspirations.

We pride ourselves on the quality of our staff and understand the importance of fostering a working environment where excellence is recognised and where staff are encouraged to develop their own talents and potential. The Treasury values diversity amongst its employees and encourages a positive work life balance including but not limited to, part-time hours.

Applications close - Wednesday 29 January. All applications must be made online.  Secondment arrangements from other government agencies will also be considered.
