Te Tari Taiwhenua/Internal Affairs serves and connects people, communities and government to build a safe, prosperous and respected nation. We deliver value to New Zealanders in many ways leading digital government, keeping Kiwis safe from harm, supporting strong and resilient communities, strengthening civic participation and governance, and fostering our cultural identity. In other words, we are all about helping to make New Zealand better for New Zealanders.

Our public service is being called upon to deliver a unified, seamless and effective digital experience so that New Zealanders have the best possible experience of government.

The Digital Public Service branch achieves this by working across the public service to connect, influence and support the system to transform and better respond to the ever-changing digital landscape. It also enables the Government Chief Digital Officer (GCDO) to support a modern adaptive public service with the skills, technology and data to operate at pace in a fast-changing digital environment.

The branch has recently redefined its purpose and reorganised to better meet the needs of a digital public service. These roles are the result of this redesign.

We need digitally, user-savvy people to act as change agents to drive change and capability improvement across public sector agencies.

Working collaboratively with other specialist consultants you will provide advice and guidance to agencies, to ensure they apply user-centred design techniques to create a customer-centred service experience.

You will play a key role in ensuring the standards, information, online tools and website content used by agencies are designed around the needs of their customers. You will make best use of your service design expertise and capability to help agencies redesign services from a customer perspective and empower them to manage the process and own the outcomes themselves.

We want someone who has:

  • strong influencing and relationship management skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse and complex stakeholders across multiple organisations
  • an understanding of the public sector and its operating environment
  • practical service design experience and the ability to apply user-design techniques to new services, products and functions
  • the ability to facilitate creative, fresh and visual thinking that generates ideas and brings about customer-centred outcomes
  • an understanding of contemporary service design frameworks and techniques
  • a sound knowledge of and experience in design, agile management and innovation methodologies, including the scoping of work, design research, ideation and prototyping, user testing, and evaluation.

If this sounds like you and you re ready to take on a stimulating and worthwhile role in a great organisation, we d love to hear from you. Apply now!
