Programme and Administration Officer - International Development and Engagement

Here at the Ombudsman, we are all about fairness for all. As an independent Officer of Parliament, we help the New Zealand public in their dealings with public sector agencies. We handle complaints, carry out investigations, protect the rights of people in detention, provide advice and training to agencies and strive to build awareness of what we do and how we do it.

Our International Development and Engagement team works to deliver on the Chief Ombudsman's vision to provide guidance, training and development support to improve public sector capability and accountability in countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Programme and Administration Officer role will carry out planning, reporting, logistics support and coordination services to support the delivery of the International Work Programme. An eye for detail is essential in this role as you will be responsible for IDE travel arrangements and activities including training, visits and meetings with overseas delegates. You will also have analytical skills so you can support the team by identifying and raising issues or opportunities where appropriate.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar position so you can hit the ground running from day one along with the following:

  • superior planning and organisational skills
  • ability to remain calm under pressure
  • strong attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively across multiple projects and activities in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • proven analytical and problem solving abilities, including the ability to apply analysis to generate sound findings
  • common sense and practical judgment
  • excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills with a willingness to contribute to a constructive, positive work environment

Depending on skills and experience, the expected salary for this position will be between $51,000 and $67,000.
