The Team: What we do

The Child Development Service are a community-based team of health professionals who are passionate about improving the health outcomes of children with developmental delays or disabilities. We work collaboratively with families/whanau and other services to support their goals and reach their potential. Our team of Allied Health Professionals work with children in their homes, early childhood centres and at our own clinics in Christchurch Central City. Our service covers Kaikoura to Rangitata.

We have a permanent full-time opportunity working 40 hours per week for a Therapy Assistant with a passion for people and a desire to secure their career in healthcare! We currently provide a Monday - Friday service. The days and hours required for these positions are negotiable. We would also consider part-time applicants; please clearly indicate in your cover letter what hours/FTE you can offer.

The Role: Where you fit in

In this role, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Working under the supervision of our registered Allied Health Professionals to provide support to tamariki and their whanau within our service
  • The delivery and installation of equipment in patient's homes
  • Providing one to one support and group programmes under the supervision of the therapist
  • Carrying out administrative duties where required
  • Participating in mandatory training and professional development courses

Your skills will include the following:

  • A strong passion for supporting and working with children and their whanau
  • An enthusiasm to learn and a willingness to obtain the National Certificate in Health, Disability, and Aged support (Health Assistants) NZQA level 3
  • The ability to cope with simultaneous demands and prioritise where required, thinking on your feet to ensure the best outcomes
  • The ability to take direction/guidance from our registered staff, while also being able to work autonomously
  • As there is travel required in this position a full NZ driver's licence is essential
  • Experience working in healthcare or with children with a disability is advantageous
  • An understanding of the healthcare system and interdisciplinary teams is advantageous
