The Government Communications Security Bureau is seeking a Technical Analysts for its newly-created Cryptanalysis Operations Team. The team is responsible for software development projects that integrate and automate sensitive software and hardware capabilities to meet customer needs.

International engagement with partner intelligence agencies is also an important responsibility of this role, and there are opportunities for short and longer-term international travel.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have a relevant degree and/or experience with an analytical or technical focus, such as computer science, engineering, telecommunications or mathematics
  • Have software development skills
  • Identify innovative and unique opportunities to support the intelligence mission
  • Enjoy technically challenging work in a collaborative and creative work environment

A sound understanding of the technology underpinning modern telecommunications networks and the ability to analyse diverse information sets and reach sound conclusions would be an asset for this role. A post-graduate qualification is desirable but not essential.

Level 1 – $58,549 – $87,823

Level 2 – $79,797 – $119,695

Level 3 - $93,497 – $140,245

To be eligible for employment within the NZIC you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years. Alternatively you must hold NZ Permanent Residence or hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years.

You must be able to obtain and maintain a high level security clearance. Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 15 year checkable background in countries where meaningful and reliable checks can be undertaken. Where requisite checks are unable to be made, the candidate application may not be able to be progressed.
