Job Description

  • Ensure responsible overseas investment for a prosperous New Zealand
  • Looking to take a step up in your career that provides you with ongoing professional development and leadership opportunities?
  • Leverage this opportunity to establish yourself as a key influencer in the OIO

What do we do?

The Overseas Investment Office (OIO) at Land and Information New Zealand is a vibrant and growing part of the LINZ organisation.  Our fun, friendly and highly engaged team works to ensure that New Zealand benefits from quality investments in valued assets now and in the future. Day to day, we're responsible for assessing applications from a broad variety of overseas investors in a wide range of industries including evaluating their prospective value to NZ.

Given the increasing scope of work we're tackling, we have had an exciting Principal Advisor (Regulator/Legal) role become available in the applications team.

About the role

If you are looking to take a step up in your career that provides you with ongoing professional development and leadership opportunities, our Principal Advisor role should appeal to you. This position is an excellent opportunity to apply your advanced regulatory experience, your commercial acumen and technical leadership to the delivery of our Regulatory function. You'll be responsible for providing guidance and support to decision makers (Managers and Ministers) and assessors (solicitors and advisors). You'll lead our technical work and be involved in our project initiatives.

The work that the OIO takes on is of high public interest. With your commercial nous, professional integrity and judgement, you'll rise to the challenge of this level of interest. You'll leverage this opportunity to establish yourself as a key influencer in the OIO and prove yourself as someone who is prepared to take responsibility for helping ensure the OIO makes intelligent, robust and quality decisions.

This role will give you exposure to the development of overseas investment policy and legislation through engaging with and supporting Treasury and the LINZ Policy team.  You'll also have the opportunity to design and implement continuous improvement initiatives or amended legislation.

This role has numerous opportunities for career development throughout our wider LINZ business, so you won't find yourself feeling pigeonholed or limited. Outside your immediate team, you'll be supported by our wider leadership team of Principal Advisors and Managers and will have the opportunity to collaborate and bounce ideas off each other that will help to inform and shape our greater long- and short-term strategies.

Your work will focus on expanding our stakeholder engagement and this is an area that you will thrive in. With your excellent people skills, you'll be comfortable engaging directly with everyone from our Ministers, our Senior Leadership Team, our applicants, our colleagues over at Treasury and of course, your team. This job will be incredibly intellectually stimulating for you, you'll get exposure to challenging legal matters and will provide advice to our Managers and solicitors on best course of action.

Join a smart, hands-on regulator at an exciting time of transformation and be an important part of the team that is making sure New Zealand's assets are in the right hands.
