Job Description

Team Member, Māori Land Court - Whanganui, Ministry of Justice (permanent – full time)

The primary objective of the Māori Land Court and the Māori Appellate Court is to promote and assist in the retention of Māori land in the hands of its owners; and for the effective use, management and development of that land by its owners.

In pursuing that objective, both Courts are supported in their operational work by the Ministry of Justice, which provides client advisory, court registry, case management, land registry and judicial support services.

Our team members are responsible for processing Māori Land Court applications from end to end (acceptance to completion), making a positive impact on people's lives. You will be challenged and will have varied work, which will make for an interesting career.

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • A can-do attitude with a strong customer focus
  • Good attention to detail and quality
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • An understanding of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi
  • Strong demonstrable research skills
  • A high level of integrity and confidentiality
  • A good general knowledge of, and respect for, tikanga Māori and a commitment to further develop your knowledge of Te Reo Māori

You will work within a well-established, experienced and vibrant team alongside technical experts and you'll be flexible, clam, resilient and in no way daunted by the court environment.

Joining Tāhū o te Ture - the Ministry of Justice means you will become part of an inclusive organisation that values you and the communities we serve. It's important to us that our workplace is one where our people feel healthy and safe, supported and able to be themselves at work. We value respect as the foundation for building a positive workplace culture where diversity is welcomed and celebrated.
