About the Residence| E pa ana ki te Kāenga
Our Youth Justice Residences provide a safe, secure and supportive environment where rangatahi in our care can make changes to get their lives back on track. Korowai Manaaki is one of five Youth Justice Residences operating across Aotearoa that operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week providing residential placements and programmes for rangatahi aged 13 to 19 years who have been charged with or convicted of an offence.
Our vision at Korowai Manaaki is to facilitate a unique, culturally focused, therapeutic, safe and restorative care environment that enables rangatahi to strengthen their connection with whānau, hapū, iwi and their culture; and develop the skills to make positive decisions to support them to flourish and transform their lives, reducing the risk of reoffending.
Korowai Manaaki is strongly focused on achieving positive change in rangatahi through education, skill development, vocational programmes, and therapeutic and cultural interventions using a Māori world centric view (Te Ao Māori). Our overall goal is that rangatahi who come into our care are positively integrated back into their community and reduce the risk of reoffending with their mana restored.
About the role | Mō te tūnga
As the Residence Manager you will need solid people management skills and the ability to widely engage with the Youth Justice sector and the local communities around Auckland. Experience in managing a residential environment is a must, as is an understanding of the triggers of offending behaviour and the creation of an environment that addresses those. Managing risk and ensuring care needs are met are a critical component of the role.
This role is responsible for managing the residences' financial, staffing and asset resources. The Residence Manager will implement and maintain nationally agreed protocols, processes and systems to enable full and effective delivery of services from the Residence and is also responsible for implementing at a local level, the change programme for residences.
A key part of this role will involve establishing relationships and engaging key agencies including Health, Education, Ministry of Social Development (MSD) and Industry Training Organisations (ITOs) in a multi-agency response that combines clinical services, education services, vocational and employment programmes in the best way to support children and young people while in residence and when they transition from the Residence.

To apply for this role, you must demonstrate the following qualifications and experience:
- Extensive experience in people management and proven ability to effectively lead others
- The ability to communicate effectively and efficiently across a wide and varied team
- Risk management experience within a complex regulatory environment, including interpretation and application of legislation and statutory powers
- A commitment to Oranga Tamariki's Māori cultural framework
- Highly skilled in all aspects of operational management activities
- Aptitude to provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and enhancing capability in people
- Strong relationship management skills and the ability to successfully engage with a wide range of stakeholders
- Highly effective communicator and strong interpersonal skills
