The details: Fixed Term (18 months until June 30th, 2023) – Full Time, 40 hours per week (1 FTE), will consider part time applicants also.
This position is due to start from mid-January but start date is negotiable.

About the role:
An exciting opening has emerged for you to join our Māori, Equity, Strategy and Research team as a Research Assistant on the HRC funded ‘WHIRI: Pandemic system redesign to maximise Māori health gains’. This study focuses on the early cancer pathway for Māori in the Waikato.
This key role calls for an organised enthusiastic and motivated individual with experience within the health field or research, excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and within a team. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting a range of clinical and other research data, and supporting qualitative data collection and the evaluation and redesign of the WHIRI programme along with the toolkit for implementation to come out of this research.
Required skills & experience:
• Bachelor qualification in Health or other relevant discipline, or equivalent experience in health sector or research
• Empathy and ability to engage people from a range of backgrounds
• Understanding of Te reo Māori me ona tikanga
• Belief in making a positive difference for vulnerable groups
• Reading and interpreting clinical information entered in patient notes
• Ability to adhere to Good Clinical Practice Guidelines
• Sound communication skills (both verbal and written)
• Attention to detail - an attribute essential to this role
• Ability to maintain confidentiality

Waikato Hospital is the Midland regional referral centre for multiple specialties including trauma surgery, oncology, and neurology.
